Manufactured by Energist, the Ultra VPLT machine uses advanced phototherapy technology to provide the most effective yet gentle skin care services including hair removal and skin rejuvenation. Variable pulsed light (VPL) treatment uses short pulses and varying lengths of light energy that can be completely customized to accommodate each patient's individual skin type and treatment goals.
While other light energy systems can deliver only one beam of light at a set wavelength, Ultra VPL uses over 400 wavelengths at varying pulse lengths to deliver precise, customized laser energy to effectively improve the appearance of the skin. This customization allows doctors to use the Ultra VPL system to perform several different treatments.
This treatment can be performed on nearly any skin type, including darker skin, and is safe to use on the face and nearly anywhere else on the body. While patients with darker skin often face a risk of hyperpigmentation with light-based treatments, this risk is greatly reduced with VPL treatment. There are no serious side effects associated with this procedure, but patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consider postponing treatment to prevent any potential harm to their baby.
During the actual treatment, the light energy is transmitted from an applicator that is moved across the skin of the targeted area. Patients may experience a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping the skin, but most are able to tolerate this feeling with no major problems. There is no recovery time needed after VPL treatment, although some patients may need cooling pads to help cool the treated area. Redness may be experienced as well and is considered normal.
Many patients seek a hair removal alternative that will give them long-lasting results and eliminate the hassle of shaving, waxing and other temporary measures. Ultra VPL combines the advantages of both laser hair removal and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment to create a treatment plan that is effective and permanent.
Unlike other permanent hair removal treatments, Ultra VPL uses over 400 wavelengths of light to deliver energy at many different depths, allowing for the most precise treatment available. This system also changes the number of pulses and the delay between pulses to specifically target the patient’s individual skin and hair type.
Since Ultra VPL can only treat hair in the active growth phase, four to six treatment sessions are usually necessary in order to thoroughly remove all hair from the treated area. The number of sessions may depend on a patient’s skin and hair color and number of hair follicles.
