We cannot stop the process of aging, but we can take steps to age gracefully. For example, as we begin to lose the volume of our face, our cheeks will begin to sag and droop leading to deep lines on either side of the nose and mouth…and even the dreaded jowls!
You may also notice that your lips are thinner than they were when you were younger. And when you look closely in the mirror, they will be fine lines begin to form and, before you know it, those lines will turn into wrinkles.
Fillers help correct these evils by restoring volume and smoothing out some of the wrinkles. Selecting the correct filler depends on what we are trying to correct.
For fine lines that are present even after Botox injections, Dr. Koneru likes to use a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) gel. Juvéderm Injectable Gel is a safe, effective gel that restores volume to the skin and smoothes away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm is the first FDA-approved dermal filler proven safe and effective for persons of color. The Juvéderm gel is made of hyaluronic acid with a smooth consistency, allowing for easy injections and instant, natural-looking results. There is no pre-testing needed for this procedure.
Dr. Koneru uses Juvederm XC which has lidocaine within the gel to provide local anesthetic and pain relief. This makes the injection much more comfortable.
Sculptra® is an injectable product that restores and corrects the signs of facial fat loss by replacing lost volume. Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Sculptra provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas.
The results from Sculptra® are not immediate but they are long-lasting. In a clinical study, effects lasted for up to two years after the first treatment session in most patients. No skin testing is required.
How Can I Get Fuller Lips?
Restoring lip volume can often be something as simple as filling with Juvederm XC or can be more involved like a surgical procedure.
How Can I Correct the Deep Lines Around my Nose?
These are commonly referred to as the parentheses and medically as the Nasolabial Folds. They are normally present, but as the volume of the cheek deflates and begins to droop these folds become much more pronounced. Beware of someone who merely wants to fill the lines with filler! The reason you got the lines is not because you lost volume or tissue in this area and filling the area with a filler will only round your central face and can give you the “monkey face”. Most people actually need filler in their cheeks to restore the cheek back to where it had been and decrease the appearance of the lines.
What is the Best Way to Fill my Cheeks?
Dr. Koneru’s preferred method for filling the cheeks is with your own fat. This provides a natural long-lasting filler that has been shown to also stimulate collagen production. In the office, we will often use Sculptra.
