Are you afraid to wear shorts because of the unsightly purple lines on your legs? Have you noticed your leg veins looking more like your mother’s? We may have the solution for you!
Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small superficial veins that develop on the surface of your skin and can easily be seen. These abnormalities can be caused by several factors including genetics, pregnancy, hormonal changes, weight gain, and long periods of standing.
Call 210-499-5900 to make an appointment for a consultation. Dr. Koneru will discuss your concerns and what is possible. If he believes you are a candidate, then you can schedule your treatment. He will give you an idea of how many treatments he recommends and if there is another procedure that may help you achieve your goals.
We usually use a combination of therapies to address spider veins. The first involves injection of the veins with a sclerosant like Polidocanol. Dr. Koneru performs this procedure himself injecting the veins to introduce the sclerosing agent. This agent irritates the walls of the veins causing them to scar together and disappear. It may take several injections to get a significant reduction. After this procedure, or if the veins cannot be injected, he may recommend using the Ultra Variable Pulsed Light (Ultra VPL) to treat some of the areas. The light from the Ultra VPL is absorbed by the pigment of the veins and the walls of the vein are destroyed diminishing the appearance of the unsightly veins.
Injecting the veins is done with a small needle so the pain is relatively low. When using the Ultra VPL, patients describe the pain as the equivalent of being snapped by a rubber band. Afterwards, we recommend you wear compression hose all the time for 3 days.
