Labiaplasty – What Every Woman Should Know

Labiaplasty in San Antonio is an operation that can improve the shape and size of the vaginal lips. Many women in San Antonio are bothered by large labia minora but are not comfortable openly discussing their concerns. At Advanced Concepts in Plastic Surgery, we are very experienced in surgical vaginal rejuvenation that can improve the shape and size of the labia. Using special surgical techniques to minimize scarring and maximize healing, I can reduce the size and shape of both the labia minora and labia majora.

What can Labiaplasty fix?

Most of the women see complain of large labia minora or external vaginal lips due to genetics, childbirth, pregnancy, or injury. Some will also feel embarrassed when wearing swimsuits or other revealing outfits like yoga pants. They often have problems with infections, irritation, and discomfort. The surgery can help eliminate these problems and improve sexual confidence and pleasure. There are several things San Antonio area women should know before undergoing labiaplasty surgery.

The “Ideal Labia”

The first thing that I tell patients is that there is no “normal” labia. British artist Jamie McCartney has even created an interesting art piece, the Great Wall of Vagina, that has over 400 different versions of vaginas. Our goal is not to create an off the shelf “look” for the labia, but to reduce the labia to correct the problems that each patient reports.

Recovery after Labiaplasty

Another thing I routinely tell patients seeking labiaplasty at my San Antonio office is that the operation is usually fairly short and easy to recover. Typically, I perform the procedure under general anesthesia in the operating room as this is most comfortable for patients. Recovery is usually a long weekend, but the area should be protected when you return to work and working out may need to wait for 6 weeks.

How is the Labiaplasty procedure done?

Each operation is tailored to the specific problems that the woman is encountering. While the principles are the same the actual incisions and design of the operation differ. It is important to choose a surgeon who has experience in performing labiaplasties and is a good problem solver when considering labiaplasty surgery. This is a procedure that may be performed by Plastic Surgeons, Gynecologists, or Urologists. If your physician is not Board Certified in one of these specialties, then you should keep looking for a qualified surgeon. In addition to reducing the vaginal lips, we can also increase the size and fullness of the labia majora. Sometimes the labia minora may appear overly large when the actual problem is that the labia majora have deflated. In my opinion, a Plastic Surgeon is the best person for performing this procedure due to our education and training in the field of fat grafting. Fat grafting allows us to fill the labia majora and often decrease loose and wrinkled skin in the area.
